It’s me, Buddy…Everyone Needs a Rock!

Byrd Baylor’s Everybody needs a rock gives ten rules for how to find the right rock.  When Buddy walks on the mountain, I sometimes wonder if  he is searching for his rock.
For instance, Rule 9 … “Always sniff a rock.  Rocks have their own smells. Some kids can tell by sniffing whether a rock came from the middle of the earth or from the ocean or from a mountain where wind and sun touched it every day for a million years.”

You’ll find out that grown-ups can’t tell these things. Too bad for them. They just can’t smell as well as kids.”  (or dogs.)

If somebody says, “What’s so special about that rock?” don’t even tell them.” writes Byrd Baylor, “I don’t. Nobody is supposed to know what’s so special about another’s rock.”

So I don’t ask!  I just wonder…

What a great post. Made me smile–a nice gentle, peaceful smile. It is peaceful here right now — both Darby and Pumpkin are snoozing after playing hard. Things aren’t perfect yet–Darby seemed to forget about Pumpkin first thing this morning and acted like she was new all over again. But, only for a few minutes and then they were off playing. Tell your PA to try to finagle it so that Leda keeps your future Blue-boy until he is potty trained. Boy! Is it nice to have a puppy come to you already trained!!! (-:
